Talavera de la Reina

Talavera de la Reina (Spain) has been twinned with Faenza since 23 October 1986. It has approximately 73400 inhabitants and it is located in Spain along the banks of the Tajo River in the North East of the province of Castilla – La Mancha,

Handicrafts are a traditional activity: wood, hat-making, but above all ornamental ceramics with its azulejos, the blue and yellow ceramic tiles produced since the 15th century and used to decorate palaces, churches and more.

At the beginning of the 20th century, an illustrious ceramist, Juan Ruiz de Luna, together with other master craftsmen, raised the local technical and artistic quality of ornamental ceramics through knowledge and experimentation with materials; Talavera’s ceramics are recognised throughout Spain through the ‘Talavera Ceramica’ brand.

The city offers a wide range of cultural options, such as museums, theatres, libraries, associations and university residences.
