Toki
Toki (Japan) has been twinned with Faenza since 23 October 1979. The city of Toki is located in the southern part of Toki Prefecture, about 40 km from Nagoya.
The twinning was created with the intention of sharing the culture and history of ceramics. Toki is famous as the ‘City of Mino Ceramics’. With the neighbouring cities, it is part of the largest ceramic production area in the nation, with a history of about 1,300 years. In Toki, in the Mino Ceramics Park, there is the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art Gifu. The Museum, designed by Arata Isozaki, collects modern and contemporary Japanese and world ceramics. The Museum’s special feature lies in the fact that it also collects and promotes everyday ceramics and industrial ceramics.
